“And declare the freedom of your Rabb from imperfection beginning with His praise, and ask His forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and Who forgives.” (An-Nasr, 110:3)

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: “Allah, the Most High, said, ‘O son of Aadam! As long as you supplicate to Me, and hope in Me, I will forgive you what you have done and I do not care. O son of Aadam! If your sins were to reach the lofty regions of the sky, then you asked Me for forgiveness, I would forgive you. O son of Aadam! If you were to come to Me with enough sins to fill the earth, but you met Me not associating anything with Me - I would bring you the like of it of forgiveness.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3540)

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying." By Allah! I ask for forgiveness from Allah and turn to Him in repentance more than seventy times a day." (Sahih al-Bukhari 6307)

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: “I swear by Him in whose hand is my soul, if you were a people who did not commit sin, Allah would take you away and replace you with a people who would sin and then seek Allah’s forgiveness so He could forgive them.” (Sahih Muslim, 2687)

He, the Most High, said in the Noble Qur'an: “Allah does not forgive that anything is associated in worship with Him, but He forgives whatever is lesser than shirk to whomever He pleases.” (An-Nisaa’, 4:48)

Conditions for attaining forgiveness of sins (based on a verse from Surah Taha):

And verily, I am indeed Forgiving to him who repents, believes (in My Oneness, and associates none in worship with Me) and does righteous good deeds, and then remains constant in doing them, (till his death). (Surat Taha 20:82)

  1. Firstly, he must repent.
  2. Secondly, he "truly believes."
  3. He "does righteous and correct deeds."
  4. Fourthly, "he remains constant upon right guidance.”

“Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.” (Al-‘A’raf, 7:23)

“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.” (‘Ibrahim, 14:41)

"Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maula (Patron, Supporter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people." (Al-Baqarah, 2:286)

“Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller calling to faith, [saying], 'Believe in your Lord,' and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die with the righteous. Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise.” (‘Ali ‘Imran, 3:193-194)

“Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful.” (Al-Hashr, 59:10)

“Our Lord, perfect for us our light and forgive us. Indeed, You are over all things competent.” (At-Tahrim, 66:8)

“Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” (‘Ali ‘Imran, 3:16)

“Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.” (‘Ali ‘Imran, 3:147)

“Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.” (Ghafir, 40:7)

“I have turned my face sincerely towards He who has brought forth the heavens and the earth and I am not of those who associate (others with Allah). Indeed my prayer, my sacrifice, my life and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds, no partner has He, with this I am commanded and I am of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the Sovereign, none has the right to be worshipped except You. You are my Lord and I am Your servant, I have wronged my own soul and have acknowledged my sin, so forgive me all my sins for no one forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best of characters for none can guide to it other than You, and deliver me from the worst of characters for none can deliver me from it other than You. Here I am, in answer to Your call, happy to serve You. All good is within Your hands and evil does not stem from You. I exist by Your will and will return to You.
