Seeking Happiness and Protection Through Istiadha

 

أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

A’oothu billaahi minash-shaiTaanir-rajeem.

“I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Shaytaan.”

 

رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنۡ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَٰطِينِ

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَن يَحۡضُرُونِ

“My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me.“ (Al-Mu’minun, 23:97-98)

  

رَبِّ إِنِّيٓ أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنۡ أَسۡ‍َٔلَكَ مَا لَيۡسَ لِي بِهِۦ عِلۡمٞۖ وَإِلَّا تَغۡفِرۡ لِي وَتَرۡحَمۡنِيٓ أَكُن مِّنَ ٱلۡخَٰسِرِينَ

“My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers.” (Hud, 11:47)

 

أَعُوذُ بِٱللَّهِ أَنۡ أَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡجَٰهِلِينَ

“I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant.” (Al-Baqarah, 2:67)

 

اللَّهُمَّ لَكَ أَسْلَمْتُ، وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ، وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ، وَإِلَيْكَ أَنَبْتُ، وَبِكَ خَاصَمْتُ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّتِكَ، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ أَنْ تُضِلَّنِي، أَنْتَ الحَيُّ الَّذِي لَا يَمُوتُ، وَالجِنُّ وَالإِنْسُ يَمُوتُونَ

Allaahumma laka aslamtu, wa bika aamantu, wa ‘alaika tawakkaltu, wa ilaika anabtu, wa bika khasamtu, Allaahumma innee a’oothu bi ‘izzatika, laa ilaaha illaa Anta an tudhillanee. Antal Hayyul-lathee laa yamootu, wal jinnu wal insu yamootoon.

“O Allah! I became obedient for You and believed in You, reposed Faith in You, turned to You and fought by You. I seek refuge with Your honor, lest You might not lead me. There is no true god other than You. You are Ever-Alive. You never die, while the jinn and the human beings die.” (Muslim, 2717)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سُوءِ القَضَاءِ، وَمِنْ دَرَكِ الشَّقَاءِ، وَمِنْ شَمَاتَةِ الأَعْدَاءِ، وَمِنْ جَهْدِ البَلَاءِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min soo-il qadhaai wamin darakish-shaqaa-i wamin shamaatatil a’daa-i wamin jahdil balaa’.

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of destiny and from falling into the hand of calamity and from the mockery of (triumphant) enemies and from the hardship of misery.” (Muslim, 2707)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ، عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ كُلِّهِ، عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا سَأَلَكَ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَاذَ بِهِ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَسْأَلُكَ الجَنَّةَ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ اَلنَّارِ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ كُلَّ قَضَاءٍ قَضَيْتَهَ لِي خَيْراً

Allaahumma innee as-aluka minal-khairi kullihee ‘aajilihi wa aajilihi maa ‘alimtu minhu wa maa lam a’alam, wa a’oothu bika minash-sharri kullihi ‘aajilihi wa aajilihi maa ‘alimtu minhu wa maa lam a’alam. Allaahumma innee as-aluka min khairi maa sa-alaka ‘abduka wa nabiyyuka, wa a’oothu bika min sharri maa ’aatha bihee ‘abduka wa nabiyyuka. Allaahumma as-alukal-jannata wa maa qarraba ilaihaa min qawlin aw ‘amalin, wa a’oothu bika minan-naari wa maa qarraba ilaihaa min qawlin aw ‘amalin, wa as-aluka an taj’ala kulla qadaa’in qadaitahu lee khaira.

“O Allah! I ask You of all the good that will occur at once and what will occur later (and the good) that I know and that I do not know. And I seek refuge with You from all the evil that will come at once and that which will come later, (and the evil) that I know and that I do not know. O Allah, I ask You of the good that Your slave and Prophet asked, and I seek refuge with You from the evil that Your slave and Prophet has sought refuge from. O Allah! I ask You for Paradise and what brings me close to it from speech or deeds and I seek refuge with You from the Fire and what brings me close to it from speech or deeds and I ask You to make all that You have decreed for me to be all good.” (Ibn Majah, 3846)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ النَّارِ، وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ القَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ.

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الغِنَى، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِ فِتْنَةِ الفَقْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min fitnatin-naari wa min athaabin-naari wa a’oothu bika min fitnatil-qabri wa a’oothu bika min athaabil qabr. Wa a’oothu bika min sharri fitnatil ghinaa wa a’oothu bika min sharri fitnatil faqri wa a’oothu bika min sharri fitnatil maseeHid dajjal.

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the Fitnah (trial or affliction, etc.) of the Fire and the punishment of the Fire, the Fitnah of the grave and the punishment of the grave. And I seek refuge with You from the evil of the affliction of wealth; and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of poverty and I seek refuge with You from the affliction of Al-Mesiah Ad-Dajjal.” (Al-Bukhari, 6014)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الفَقْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ القِلَّةِ وَالذِّلَّةِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika minal-faqri wa a’oothu bika minal-qillati wath-thillati, wa a’oothu bika an aDHlima aw uDHlam.

“O Allah, I seek refuge with you from poverty, I seek refuge with You from want and humiliation, and I seek refuge with You from wronging others or being wronged.” (An-Nasaa'i, 5460)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَمِلْتُ، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَا لَمْ أَعْمَلْ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min sharri maa `amiltu, wa min sharri maa lam a`mal.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of that which I have done and the evil of that which I have not done.” (Ahmad, 278/6)

 

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ جِبْرَائِيلَ وَمِيكَائِيلَ، وَرَبَّ إِسْرَافِيلَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ حَرِّ النَّارِ، وَمِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ

Allaahumma rabba jibraa-eela, wa mikaa-eela wa rabba israafeela, a’oothu bika min harrin-nari wa min 'athaabil-qabr.

“O Allah, Lord of Jibra'il and Mika'il and Lord of Israfil, I seek refuge in You from the heat of the Fire and from the torment of the grave.“ (An-Nasaa'i, 5519)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الجُوعِ؛ فَإِنَّهُ بِئْسَ الضَّجِيعُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الخِيَانَةِ؛ فَإِنَّهَا بِئْسَتِ البِطَانَةُ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika minal- joo'i, fa-innahu bi’-sadh-dhajee'u; wa a’oothu bika minal-khiyaanati, fa- innahaa bi’-satil-biTaanah'.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from hunger; surely, it is the worst companion. And I seek refuge in You from treachery; surely, it is a bad inner trait.” (Ibn HIbban, 1029)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الهَرَمِ، وَالتَّرَدِّي، وَالهَدْمِ، وَالغَمِّ، وَالحَرِيقِ، وَالغَرَقِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِيَ الشَّيِْطَانُ عِنْدَ المَوْتِ، وَأَنْ أُقْتَلَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ مُدْبِراً، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغاً

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika minal-harami, wat-taraddi, wal-hadmi, wal-ghammi, wal-Hareeqi, wal-gharaqi, wa a’oothu bika, an yatakhabbataniyash-shaytaanu 'indal-mawti, wa an uqtala fee sabeelika mudbiran, wa a’oothu bika an amoota ladeeghaa.

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from old age, being thrown from a high place, being crushed by a falling wall, and distress, and burning and drowning. I seek refuge with You from being led astray by the Shaytaan at the time of death and from being killed in Your cause while fleeing from the battlefield. I seek refuge with You from dying of a scorpion sting.” (An-Nasaa'i, 5532)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ المَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ المَحْيَا وَالمَمَاتِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ المَأْثَمِ وَالمَغْرَمِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min `athaabil-qabri, wa a’oothu bika min fitnatil-maseehid-dajjaali, wa a’oothu bika min fitnatil-mahyaa wal mamaat. Wa a’oothu bika minal ma'-thami wal-maghram.

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the grave, and I seek refuge with You from the afflictions of the imposter-Messiah, and I seek refuge with You from the afflictions of life and death. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from sins and from debt.” (Muslim, 589)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ العَجْزِ، وَالكَسَلِ، وَالجُبْنِ، وَالبُخْلِ، وَالهَرَمِ، وَالقَسْوَةِ، وَالغَفْلَةِ، وَالعَيْلَةِ، وَالذِّلَّةِ، وَالمَسْكَنَةِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الفَقْرِ، وَالكُفْرِ، وَالفُسُوقِ، وَالشِّقَاقِ، وَالنِّفَاقِ، وَالسُّمْعَةِ، وَالرِّيَاءِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الصَّمَمِ، وَالبُكْمِ، وَالجُنُونِ، وَالجُذَامِ، وَالبَرَصِ، وَسَيِّءِ الأَسْقَامِ

Allaahumma innee a'oothu bika minal ‘ajzi wal kasali, wal-jubni, wal-bukhli, wal-harami, wal-qaswati, wal-ghaflati, wal-‘aylati, wath-thillati, wal-maskanati, wa a’oothu bika minal faqri, wal-kufri, wal-fusooqi, wash-shiqaaqi, wan-nifaaqi, was-sum’ati, war-riyaa-i, wa a’oothu bika minS-Samami, wal-bukmi, wal-junooni, wal-juthaami, wal-baraSi, wa sayyi-il asqaam.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from inability (to do good), laziness, cowardice, miserliness, senility, rigidity (hard heartedness), heedlessness, deprivation, disgrace, and poverty; and I seek refuge in You from absolute poverty, disbelief, rebellion, dissension, hypocrisy, seeking fame, and showing off; and I seek refuge in You from deafness, being mute, insanity, leprosy, and from (any) bad sicknesses.” (Al-Hakim, 1944)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min zawaali ni’matika wa taHaw-wuli ‘aafiyatika wa fujaa-ati niqmatika wa jamee’i sakhaTik.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You against the declining of Your Favours, and passing of Your safekeeping, the suddenness of Your punishment and all that which displeases You.” (Muslim, 2739)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ سَمْعِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ بَصَرِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ لِسَانِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ قَلْبِي، وَمِنْ شَرِّ مَنِيِّي

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min sharri sam’ee, wa min sharri baSaree, wa min sharri lisaaniee, wa min sharri qalbee, wa min sharri maniyyee.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evils of my hearing, the evils of my seeing, the evils of my tongue; the evils of my heart and the evils of passions.” (At-Tirmidhi, 3492)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ العَدُوِّ، وَشَمَاتِةِ الأَعْدَاءِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa ghalabatil ‘aduw-wi wa shamaatatil a’daa’.

“O Allah, I seek refuge with You from being overwhelmed with debt, from being overpowered by the enemy and from the enemy rejoicing over my misfortunes.” (An-Nasaa'i, 5475)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ يَوْمِ السُّوءِ، وَمِنْ لَيْلَةِ السُّوءِ، وَمِنْ سَاعَةِ السُّوءِ، وَمِنْ صَاحِبِ السُّوءِ، وَمِنْ جَارِ السُّوءِ فِي دَارِ المُقَامَةِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min yaumis-soo-i, wa min laylatis-soo-i, wa min saa’atis-soo-i, wa min Saahibis-soo-i, wa min jaaris-soo-i fee daaril muqaamah.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the bad day; from the bad night; from the bad hour; from the bad companion; and from the bad neighbour of the house of abode.” (At-Tabarani, 810)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ ضِيقِ الدُّنْيَا، وَضِيقِ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min dheeqid-dunyaa wa deeqi yaumil qiyaamah.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the strait of this life and from the strait of the Day of Resurrection.” (Abu Dawud, 5058)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ مُنْكَرَاتِ الأَخْلَاقِ، وَالأَعْمَالِ، وَالأَهْوَاءِ وَالأَدْوَاءِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika min munkaraatil akhlaaqi wal a’maali wal ahwaa-i wal adwaa’.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from undesirable manners, deeds, and aspirations and ailments.” (At-Tirmidhi, 3519)

 

اللَّهُمَّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الهَمِّ، وَالحَزَنِ، وَضَلَعِ الدَّيْنِ، وَغَلَبَةِ الرِّجَالِ

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika minal hammi wal Hazni wa dhala’id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijaal.

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men.” (Abu Dawud, 1541)

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ 

Allaahumma innee a’oothu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a’lamu wa astaghfiruka limaa laa a’lam.

“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly (or unknowingly) associating anything with You, and I ask Your forgiveness for what I do not know.” (Al-Bukhari, 716)

 

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ هَمْزِهِ، وَنَفْثِهِ، وَنَفْخِهِ

A’oothu billaahi minash-shaiTaani min hamzihi wa nafthihi wa nafkhih.

“I seek refuge in Allah from the cursed Shaytaan, and his madness, his arrogance, and his poetry.” (Ibn Majah, 808)
