O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) ) Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. (2) Half of it, or a little less than that, (3) Or a little more; And recite the Qur'ân (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style (4) Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word. (5)
(Surah Al Muzzamil 1-5)
And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salât (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Qur'an in the prayer), as an additional prayer (Tahajjud optional prayer - Nawâfil) for you (O Muhammad ﷺ). It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqâm Mahmûd (a station of praise and glory, i.e. the honour of intercession on the Day of Resurrection)
(Surah Al Isra’a 79)
And during night, prostrate yourself to Him (i.e. the offering of Maghrib and 'Ishâ' prayers), and glorify Him a long night through (i.e. Tahajjud prayer)
(Surah Al Insan 26)
Allah descends to the lowest heaven in a manner that suits His majesty in the last third of the night
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: Our Lord descends (in a manner that suits His majesty) every night to the heaven of this world in the last third of the night and says:
- (Is there anyone) who supplicates to Me so that I may answer him?
- (Is there anyone) who asks of Me so that I may give him?
- (Is there anyone) who asks for My forgiveness so that I may forgive him?
(Sunan Abi Dawud 4733, Authenticated by Al Albani as Sahih)
Remember Allah in the last third of the night
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The closest that the Lord is to a worshipper is during the last part of the night, so if you are able to be of those who remember Allah in that hour, then do so.”
(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3579)
Hour of the night when asking for anything good for duniya or akhira is granted
I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "Every night there is an hour during which whatever a Muslim asks Allah of any good relating to this life or the Hereafter, it will be granted to him; and this moment comes every night."
(Riyadh As Saliheen, Muslim, Book 9, Hadith 1178)
Seek forgiveness from Allah in the final moments before fajr
And those who beg Allâh's Forgiveness in the last hours of the night
(Surah Al Imran 17)
