Hearing the adhaan

Virtue of calling the adhaan (for men only)

and standing in the first row

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "If people came to know the blessing of calling Adhan and the standing in the first row, they could do nothing but would draw lots to secure these privileges."

(Riyadh As Saliheen, Al Bukhari & Muslim, Book 9, Hadith 1083)

Virtue of calling the adhaan

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, ‘Whoever will hear the Adhan whether a human being, or a Jinn, or anything else, will bear witness for him on the Day of Resurrection’.

(Sahih al-Bukhari 3296)

Beware of the shaitan

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear the Adhan. When the Adhan is completed he comes back and again takes to his heels when the Iqama is pronounced and after its completion he returns again till he whispers into the heart of the person (to divert his attention from his prayer) and makes him remember things which he does not recall to his mind before the prayer and that causes him to forget how much he has prayed."

(Sahih al-Bukhari 608)

Supplication after hearing the adhaan

I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying, "When you hear the Adhan, repeat what the Mu'adhdhin says. Then ask Allah to exalt my mention because everyone who does so will receive in return ten rewards from Allah. Then beseech Allah to grant me Al-Wasilah, which is a high rank in Jannah, fitting for only one of Allah's slaves; and I hope that I will be that man. If any one asks Al-Wasilah for me, it becomes incumbent upon me to intercede for him.”

(Riyadh As Saliheen, Muslim, Book 9, Hadith 1037)

One should send prayers on the Prophet (ﷺ) after answering the call of the mu-aththin and ask Allah to grant the Prophet (ﷺ) Al Wasilah.

Allaahum-ma ṣallee ‛alaa muḥammad wa ‛alaa aali muḥammad kamaa ṣal-layta ‛alaa ibraaheem wa ‛alaa aali ibraaheem, innaka ḥameedum majeed, Allaahum-ma baarik ‛alaa muḥammadi wa ‛alaa aali muḥammad kamaa baa-rakta ‛alaa ibraaheem wa ‛alaa aali ibraaheem, innaka ḥameedun majeed

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the followers of Muhammad, just as You sent prayers upon Ibraheem and upon the followers of Ibraheem. Verily, You are full of praise and majesty. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, just as You sent blessings upon Ibraheem and upon the family of Ibraheem. Verily, You are full of praise and majesty.

Allaahumma rabba haadhi-hid-da‛watit-taammah, waṣ-ṣalaatil-qaa’imah, aati muḥammadan-il-waseelata wal-faḍeelah, wab‛ath-hu maqaaman maḥmoodan-illadhee wa‛adtah

O Allah, Owner of this perfect call and Owner of this prayer to be performed, bestow upon Muhammad al-waseelah and al-fadeelah and resurrect him upon a praised platform which You have promised him.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 529, Authenticated by Al Albani as Sahih)

Virtue of making dua’a after the adhaan

A man said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ),  the mu'adhdhins excel us. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Say (the same words) as they say, and when you come to the end, ask and that will be granted to you.

(Sunan Abi Dawud 524, Authenticated by Al Albani as Hasan Sahih)

Virtue of making dua’a after the adhaan and before the iqamah (2nd calling to prayer)

Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "The supplication made between the Adhan and the Iqamah is never rejected."

(Riyadh As Saliheen, Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi, Book 9, Hadith 1043)
